In Monday’s (6/12) Detroit Jewish News, Suzanne Chessler writes, “Peter Cummings, who established a long career as a real estate developer starting in 1975, has brought his professional skills to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) during some 30 years of volunteer commitment. Cummings, currently executive chairman and CEO of The Platform, which brings commercial and residential innovation to Detroit, became a member of the symphony board in 1992, spent six years as chairman and is now chairman emeritus. For his DSO development successes, Cummings is being recognized on June 17 at the 11th Heroes Gala and Benefit Concert [which] will feature singer-pianist Michael Feinstein and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet under the leadership of conductor Jader Bignamini, DSO music director…. Proceeds from the evening [benefit] the orchestra’s music education for young people…. Cummings’ many initiatives being honored include his role in the $250 million development of the DSO campus and neighborhood. He led in mapping out a $60 million, 135,000-square-foot addition to Orchestra Hall. He also led the development of the Peter D. and Julie F. Cummings Cube (The Cube), which accommodates more intimate concerts and spotlights cabaret singers, chamber groups and music of importance to various cultures.” Cummings has served on the board of the League of American Orchestras.
